Befriend new beau or no?

Is it a good idea to become facebook friends when beginning to date someone?

Its girls night. Your out for drinks and you meet someone that may have potential… By the time you’ve exchanged names and he’s walked away you’ve googled him, know where he works, is he a homeowner? Photos, facebook page, descriptions of his 1st born… you get the picture…

Having quick access & such personal insight into someone’s life has started a trend I like to call, “Gray Fever’ and its known to drive people crazy… Its thrown those of us still circling the dating drain into this floating gray zone where monogamy can easily be questioned & a person can be assessed as quick as the click of a friend request.

So you go on a few dates and suddenly you find yourself on their facebook page scoping out the pictures… does he have any quotes? What’s his relationship status? Hometown? Wonder who she is… Next thing you know its 1 am, and you have driven yourself to a little land called facebook hell. You have now seen all these things about the individual with no explanation. You can’t ask! its too soon, right? You certainly cannot react…exclusive? Who knows? Welcome my friends, to the gray zone… What Im realizing is peering into someone’s life through a web portal must be seen just as if you are looking through a peep hole in the door. A small peek into a much larger space.
I must ask, is it worth it? What ever happened to the original method of getting to know someone face to face? Furthermore, are we preventing ourselves of this?
In dating, is technology providing us with TMI too soon?

A girl can dream... This IS still America, right?!?

So the other afternoon (spent bored to death) I was painfully flipping through an ad stuffed women’s magazine with beauty reviews about as real as silicone breasts. While bypassing the same repetitive articles about “How to achieve your best orgasm” (ummm, wasn’t that in last mo issue? And the issue before that!?!) Anyway, I came across an article about “How to achieve your dream future”. The article itself was dreadful, though Im thankful it was. Had I not been so bored and distracted by its dream weaver ramblings, Id have never gone off on my own mental tangent, as follows…

We lead such fast paced yet redundant lifestyles filled with busy work, family schedules and weekends spent at the nearest mall or super center buying in bulk; that we sometimes loose sight of our dreams… No, not our goals or hopes for the future, but our DREAMS… and it got me thinking…

(A pink unicorn isn’t unreasonable, is it?)

Ok, ok, so I began to think… if I could envision my “dream” future, what would it be? Hmmm… here goes….
I want a beachfront home in southern California with a veggie garden, a couple of chickens in the back for fresh eggs, and 2 peacocks living in a grassy courtyard off my dining room. (Yes, I said peacocks and Im 100% serious…) Too much? Im just getting started.
(Remember, this is MY fairytale, ahem…I mean dream….)

I want a beautiful, loving and FAITHFUL husband that allows me to be a stay at home mom / Entrepreneur / Martha Stewart wrapped in one. We have 1 or 2 happy, healthy children..
I want to spend days as a family on the beach, walking home in the sand for a lunch made by mommy.

I want to have romance and scheduled date nights with my husband, who yes, is very busy because he’s running an extremely successful business, though he always makes time & efforts for me and our family. He adores me and we love to laugh together. We are best friends. He kisses my forehead when he comes to bed late & Im fast asleep. Im involved with many charitable organizations and benefits, a ‘lady who lunches,’ whom always travels light and favors the chic essence of understated elegance…
***Bing! Bing!***
That’s about as far as I could get before being snapped back into reality by the binging of my phone.
Damn it…
So… at this point I wonder, is this feasible or is that pink unicorn looking more realistic?
Time shall tell…
